With an X-FILES return now confirmed, David Duchovny has gone on record to reveal some additional returning characters.

Speaking to David Letterman on The Late Show, Duchovny revealed, “There’s Gillian and I, we’re original. Mitch Pileggi will come back, and the cigarette-smoking man – if that means anything to anyone – will be coming back.”

We knew about Gillian Anderson and Duchovny’s returns, but the other characters that the actor refers to are Pileggi’s Director Walter Skinner and William B. Davis’ Smoking Man, who was a dark presence often felt in the show. Additionally, TV Wise is reporting that Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick are also returning as Monica Reyes and John Doggett, respectively.

Expect to be hearing more on this show as it develops.
