In some hugely intriguing news, the team behind Sherlock are getting set to develop a series based around Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

As per Variety, the writers and producers from Sherlock will soon start working away on this new take on an old favourite, including Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat on board in a writing capacity. Sue Vertue’s Hartswood Films will be producing the show. At this stage, the BBC are in talks to nab the broadcast rights here in the UK. The brief early word is that “Dracula will adopt the same format as Sherlock, with a miniseries run of feature-length episodes.”

Given that all of this in its infancy, there’s no real further details at this stage, including casting news or whether, like Sherlock, the series will look to take an age-old favourite and bring it to a more contemporary and modern setting. With the fact that Stoker’s original source material sees Drac looking to head to England in the search for fresh blood, there’s certainly an angle there should that be a direction that show ultimately looks to go in.

As ever, expect more on this as and when we get it.
