It was only last week that Disney confirmed December 2022, December 2024 and December 2026 release dates for three new Star Wars movies, and now we have an update on said pictures.

Previously, many believed that those three films would be the trilogy that Rian Johnson was developing for Disney, but instead this next trio of movies will be from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Disney’s Bob Iger confirmed the news during a talk at the MoffetNathanson Media & Communications Summit. Iger simply stated, “The Benioff and Weiss series will be the next Star Wars movie released.”

There’s no word yet on when Johnson’s trilogy will be heading to the big screen, but we at least now know when the movies of Game of Thrones’ Benioff and Weiss will be here. In terms of what we know about these films – which Benioff and Weiss will write and produce – the action will focus on something different to the standard Skywalker saga of movies or the trilogy that Rian Johnson is working on.

Up next for the Star Wars franchise, of course, is The Rise of Skywalker this coming December. After that, the big screen “galaxy far, far away” antics will take a break until the first of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ trilogy arrives in 2022.
