Zoe Kravitz has long played roles in some of the world’s most recognizable franchises. Her career has absolutely endeared her to fans of X-Men, J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, and DC Comics, but it’s her smaller stuff that truly showcases her talent. Now, the actress is stepping up to direct her first feature, the thriller Pussy Island. MGM won the bid for the film’s global distribution rights, beating out other big-name distributors and promising an enthralling realization of Kravitz’s story. Even better, though, is the fact that the film continues to add top-tier talent.

Variety brings word that BAFTA winner Naomi Ackie has officially signed on as the lead in Kravitz’s hotly anticipated directorial debut. In addition to portraying Jannah in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Ackie has appeared in the third season of Master of None, as well as in Idris Elba’s 2018 film Yardie and the second season of The End of the F***ing World.

Ackie will portray Frida, a cocktail waitress eager to charm tech mogul Slater King (Channing Tatum) and gain access to his private island. Details regarding the actual plot are sparse, but judging from its classification as a thriller, it’s safe to say things won’t go smoothly for anyone involved.
