While the small screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist may have recently been canned after just one solitary season, there’s better news to report on another King adap.

As per Variety, the Brendan Gleeson and Harry Treadaway-headlined Mr. Mercedes has been renewed for a second season which will start production in February. The early word on this new season is: “The second season will be based on Stephen King’s best-selling Bill Hodges Trilogy, which includes Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers and End of Watch.”

David E. Kelly will be back to pen the new season, while Jack Bender will be back to direct. The current plan is for Season 2 to span ten one-hour episodes.

For those unfamiliar with the general premise of Mr. Mercedes, the wider synopsis on the show reads:

Retired detective Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved case of “Mr. Mercedes,” who claimed sixteen lives when he drove a stolen Mercedes through a line of job-seekers at a local job fair. Meanwhile, brilliant young psychopath Brady Hartsfield, the real Mr. Mercedes, re-emerges to focus his attention on Hodges. What begins as an online cat-and-mouse game between the two soon has deadly real-life consequences as an increasingly desperate Hartsfield becomes bent on leaving his mark on the world.

In the US, the show is an AT&T Originals production, while the series has yet to land a UK home.

As ever, expect more on Season 2 of Mr. Mercedes as it develops.
