We should really be used to this by now, but this kind of stuff continues to elicit groans from us here at Starburst. This year alone we’ve had announcements that THE FLINTSTONES, POPEYE, HONG KONG PHOOEY, and THE MUNSTERS are all heading back to our screens in some form or other over the coming years. Damn those Chipmunks. And those bloody Smurfs didn’t help either. There’s clearly a massive audience for this constant raiding of our fondly remembered childhood properties.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment are to blame this time, with their plans to bring back their seventy year old character in a big-screen feature length movie.

Comedy writers Joh Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, whose debut feature was the Will Ferrell, Jon Heder hugely successful ice skating movie BLADES OF GLORY, have been hired to bring Woody back to our multiplexes (and our toy aisles, Burger restaurants, etc). Having also contributed episodes for the acclaimed animated sitcom KING OF THE HILL back in the day, the writing duo are clearly talented guys, but can they channel their skills into making this film pain free for audience members over the age of 9? Or is this just rent money for the next year type of gig? Wouldn’t blame them for the latter – writer’s gotta eat, yo – but either the way they’ve got their work cut out for them. Man, that bird is annoying.

Woody you wanna see this movie? Let us know in the Comments below or on Twitter @Starburst_Mag
