With this week seemingly bringing word that Director Scott Derrickson will be helming Marvel Studios’ long-rumoured DOCTOR STRANGE movie, it remains to be seen as to just who will fill the role of the Sorcerer Supreme. The early rumour was that the Oscar-winning Jared Leto was the frontrunner for the gig, although two more names are now being linked to the role.

According to Deadline, the two names currently in the frame are STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS’ Benedict Cumberbatch and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES’ Tom Hardy. Whilst we’re fans of Hardy, Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange? Yes, please.

Whilst Derrickson, best known for helming THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE and SINISTER, has recently taken to Twitter to tease his apparent involvement in a Stephen Strange movie, there’s still nothing official coming from Marvel Studios and Disney. That said, both the 8th July, 2016 and the 5th May, 2017 are reserved for unknown MCU movies. Could the good doctor possibly take one of these dates? Stranger things have happened.
