Just when you thought Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was bursting at its mutant seams, we have another character added to the time-travel adventure. Joining the already huge list of X-names, we’re now going to be seeing a younger version of Toad make an appearance. Last seen played by Ray Park in 2000’s X-MEN – in which he was ‘zapped’ by Halle Berry’s Storm – DAYS OF FUTURE PAST has cast the relatively-unknown Evan Jonigkeit (above) in the role.

Speaking to MTV, Jonigkeit said, “I read a lot of the comic book. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad. X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it’s a generation story of how he came to be. It’s really cool.”

When asked on whether his version of Toad will have a similar look to Park’s version, the actor responded, “The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I’m not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that. It’s darker. I would say it’s a darker tone.”

And there we have it: another addition to Singer’s already heaving X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.

The DAYS OF FUTURE PAST comic-book arc is the stuff of legend. A brilliant, iconic X-Men tale that sees a future Kitty Pryde send her mind back to her younger self in order to worn of an desolate future, the film adaptation could easily fail on a number of levels. Still, if, just if, it works, audiences will be in for a treat.

Singer’s cinematic version of the story will see the future Kitty Pryde send Wolverine back to the past, rather than sending her own mind. The troubled future sees mutants hunted down by giant Sentinels, created by Bolivar Trask, after a group of rogue mutants assassinate a high-ranked senator.

Bringing together quite the ensemble cast, Singer’s movie sees McAvoy as the younger Charles Xavier, Patrick Stewart as the older Xavier, Michael Fassbender as the younger Magneto, Ian McKellen as the older Magneto, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, Halle Berry as Storm, Shawn Ashmore as Iceman, Daniel Cudmore as Colossus, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Omar Sy as Bishop, Fan Binbing as Blink, Lucas Till as Havok, Josh Helman as a younger William Stryker, Booboo Stewart as Warpath, Adan Canto as Sunspot, and Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask. And breathe…

At present, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is set for a 23rd May, 2014 release.
