Having burnt through most of their successful properties, Hollywood is now finally looking at the movies that might actually benefit from the reboot treatment – ie: films that had a great concept at their core, but didn’t really pull them off their first time around. Like TIMECOP. There’s nothing wrong with the idea behind Peter Hyam’s 1994 original (and the Dark Horse comic book on which it was based) – a police force tasked with tracking down those who abuse the rules of time-travel – but it had Jean-Claude Van Damme in it. Hence it was at an immediate disadvantage from the get go. That said, it did go on to spawn a direct-to-DVD sequel and a TV show, so there is a fanbase out there. A fanbase who are likely now up in arms at the prospect of a reboot!

Universal are to begin fielding pitches from writers soon, so we’ll have more news on the project shortly…
