It was reported a few weeks back that Warner Brothers was already looking to develop a sequel to THE LEGO MOVIE. Now comes word from Deadline that the WB has chosen the man to direct the follow-up. Step forward, Chris McKay. A lot of you may be asking “who?” but McKay worked as an editor and animation supervisor on the first movie. Recently his name was also mentioned as a possibility for the MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE reboot.

THE LEGO MOVIE has done very impressive numbers so far, having earned over $360 million across the globe to date. The movie features the voice talents of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell, Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Cobie Smulders, and it’ll be interesting to see who returns for the McKay-helmed sequel.

As well as McKay taking directing duties, the first movie’s directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, are on board as producers. A script is currently being written by Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan, with the film scheduled for a 26th May, 2017 release.
