In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN star Andrew Garfield was discussing all things Spidey sequels. One topic that came up was the removal of Mary Jane Watson from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and the departure of Shailene Woodley from the series as a result. This leaves an MJ-shaped hole for the third of Webb’s Spider-Man films – a hole that may just be filled by CHRONICLE’s Michael B. Jordan!

Discussing the Mary Jane conundrum, Garfield said, “I was like, ‘What if MJ is a dude?’ Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It’s hardly even groundbreaking! So why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?”

The actor then added, “I’ve been obsessed with Michael B. Jordan since THE WIRE. He’s so charismatic and talented. It would be even better – we’d have interracial bisexuality.”

Garfield finished the interview by explaining that these decisions were way over his head, and that he wasn’t entirely sure if Sony Pictures would entertain such an idea.

As for Jordan, he’s rumoured to be the front-runner for the role of Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in Josh Trank’s FANTASTIC FOUR film. Now don’t be getting too excited, there won’t be any Torch and Spidey crossover any time soon, as 20th Century Fox own the FF rights and Columbia own the Spider-Man rights.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 opens in UK cinemas April 18th.
