Following on from last week’s news that Harrison Ford is (almost) a lock to reprise Han Solo in STAR WARS EPISODE VII, comes word that John Williams looks set to once again provide the score. To be honest, we hadn’t entertained the idea of a Williams score NOT being used, but the very thought of anybody stepping into that role fills us with dread. One of the hardest sells THE CLONE WARS was faced with when it debuted in cinemas (huge mistake) was the fact that they couldn’t use Williams’ iconic music, and as good as Kevin Kiner is, the opening didn’t have that STAR WARS oomph.

Anyway, it appears that Williams is still very keen on the franchise that helped but him on the map, and had this to say during a a recent concert:

“We’re about to play Star Wars and each time we play it, I’m reminded of the first time we played it decades ago. Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes… and years later another trilogy. Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016… so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George.”

Very comforting indeed. STAR WARS EPISODE VII is scheduled for 2015, but as John Williams touched upon briefly in the above quote, it could very well be moved to 2016 due to J.J. Abrams schedule. Which is the exact opposite of comforting.
