Just recently, audiences were treated to a live Q&A between Zack Snyder with principal cast members of Man of Steel and avid comic fan Kevin Smith. We’ve already reported on Smith’s enthused reaction to the batsuit that he saw (no pics yet sadly), and now comes another little nugget of news on Snyder’s anticipated sequel. The director may have just announced the big bald baddie Lex Luthor’s appearance in the 2015 sequel. Saying that Lex Luthor will be in Snyder’s follow-up may not be a huge revelation (after all this is, let’s not forget, a ‘Superman’ sequel) but it’s another big character in this comic book sequel’s pick n’ mix.

Snyder did not out-and-out confirm Luthor’s presence but it was strongly suggested. When Snyder was asked of Superman’s heritage, he answered,

“At its core, Superman is an alien. He comes from an alien world … Lex loves to call him an alien,” to which Smith quickly said, “That’s a spoiler, folks.”

Take this how you want, but conformation or not it was always likely that Man of Steel 2/Batman vs. Superman would involve Luthor. In any case, this comment alone is far stronger evidence than this year’s earlier rumours that Bryan Cranston would be playing Supes’ most nefarious antagonist. Rumours no doubt driven by Cranston’s baldness as character Walter White in Breaking Bad, Cranston’s toying with fans when asked to comment and the fact that the finale of the show was upon us. Admittedly it would be delicious casting but that’s another story. Needless to say (but we’ll say it anyway) this little bit of news gives many audiences further reason to dust off their capes and fly to cinemas in 2015. But if you’re going to, do not wear the red underwear too, as superman seems to have ditched them… perhaps those Krypton armored threads are a touch warmer.

The as yet untitled Man of Steel 2/Batman vs. Superman will be grappling its way into cinemas on the 17th July 2015.
