A few weeks back it was reported that production on PARADISE LOST had been temporarily shut down whilst director Alex Proyas and his production crew tried to get the effects heavy budget down to more manageable levels. Well they tried and they failed because Legendary Pictures has officially scrapped the film. The budget was apparently at $120 million which was too hefty a price tag for a film about a biblical war in heaven, even if it did feature the ever so hot Bradley Cooper as Lucifer/Satan.

Producers Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Vincent Newman are apparently still toiling away to get the budget down so they can approach a new production company and get work started again.

The crew and the rest of the cast, including Casey Affleck and Benjamin Walker, have moved on to other projects however and it’s unclear whether they will hang around if this thing ever gets a green light again.

Alex Proyas is a unique visual stylist and it’s a shame we won’t get to see what his take on an angelic war in the heavens will look like. This could well be a loss on a par with Terry Gilliam’s THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE which has been trying to get off the ground for ten years now, or possibly we have been spared an empty exercise in style over substance, anyone know?
