20th Century Fox have officially got the ball rolling on their sequel to this year’s X-MEN: FIRST CLASS with the announcement that Simon Kinberg has been hired to fire up the ol’ Final Draft and bang out a script.

Kinberg has got a fair share of hits in his filmography already – SHERLOCK HOLMES, MR. AND MRS. SMITH – and a few questionable entries – XXX 2: THE NEXT LEVEL, JUMPER, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND – but to be honest, the latter film was notoriously interfered with by the studio, so who knows how his original draft would have fared if left as was. XXX 2 on the other hand…

In all seriousness, the fact that Kinberg also had a hand in producing FIRST CLASS should set fan’s minds at ease.

So which of the rumoured storylines will the studio and Kinberg run with? There’s been plenty floating around on the internet, including Matthew Vaughn’s Kennedy assassination idea, but many have come from the actors themselves, which translates to: ‘take with a pinch of salt’.

We’ll just have until 2013 to see for ourselves.
