It’s been three years since the Dawn Treader completed its voyage to find the seven lost Great Lords of Narnia, and in that time it has become increasingly unlikely the rest of Narnia’s Chronicles will be told in film form. While VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER was a relative critical and financial success, also going some way to restoring faith in the saga after the lacklustre reception of PRINCE CASPIAN, it was never to be taken for granted that the series was going to continue.

The next film originally planned was THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW, the second last Narnia tale to be written but the first chronologically, relating the mystical country’s creation. However, delays led to producer Walden Media’s contract with CS Lewis’ estate expiring, and due to a moratorium placed on productions, no Narnia films can be released without Walden’s involvement until the restriction ends in 2018.

However, this restriction only applies to the films’ commercial distribution, and does not extend to actually making them. Subsequently, the production company of Mark Gordon, president of the Producers Guild of America, has made an agreement with Lewis’ estate to jointly develop an adaptation of THE SILVER CHAIR, the book sequentially following VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER.

The plot of THE SILVER CHAIR sees Eustace Scrubb and his school friend Jill, accompanied by the marsh-wiggle Puddleglum, assigned by Aslan to search for Caspian’s son Prince Rilian, who disappeared some years previously while hunting for the green serpent that killed his mother.
