We’re all well aware that Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL sequel will see THE SOCIAL NETWORK’s Jesse Eisenberg playing Lex Luthor, although many quarters of the online world were calling for BREAKING BAD’s Bryan Cranston to land the gig of Superman’s nemesis. Speaking on The Howard Stern show, Cranston revealed that he would have ‘welcomed’ the job.

When asked if he was ever considered for the Luthor role, Cranston revealed, “In the minds of fans, it’s true. In the minds of the hierarchy at Warner Brothers, it’s not true. I was not involved in any of that whatsoever, but I would have welcomed it.”

So, it appears, despite regular speculation that the the actor was in various stages of talks with the studio, that Warners never seriously considered him for the role, which is certainly a tad surprising. That said, it’s as similarly surprising that Eisenberg got the Lex nod. With BREAKING BAD having pushed the former Hal from MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE to superstardom, it is a little strange to hear that he was never really considered for Lex Luthor.

Regardless of Cranston’s lack of involvement, the still untitled MAN OF STEEL sequel is moving forward, with production set to start shortly. As well as Eisenberg as Lex, the film sees Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

Snyder’s Batman vs Superman mash-up is currently scheduled for a 6th May, 2016 release. Meanwhile, you can see Cranston in Gareth Edwards’ impressive-looking GODZILLA reboot, which hits on 16th May.
