Set to voice the gun-toting, wise-cracking Rocket Raccoon in James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Bradley Cooper has been speaking to Collider about what drew him to the Marvel project.

Cooper said, “Well I like James a lot and it really was about him and then talking to him about the guy. I wasn’t familiar with the comic at all and then I really loved it, and I love that character. He’s incredible, that character. You know, one thing we debated was he’s seen as a cockney accent sometimes. So we talked about whether we’d do that or do this sort of other guy from the city a little bit.”

Asked if he’s finally nailed the voice, the HANGOVER star replied, “Yeah, we’re in the middle of it.”

When pushed on his thoughts on the movie, Cooper added, “Chris Pratt is unbelievable and Zoe is great. She’s always great. Chris Pratt just blew me away. I thought he’s just, like, the perfect guy.”

In Marvel’s space opera, we have Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Vin Diesel doing motion capture and voice work for Groot, and Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket Raccoon. Making up the cast of Gunn’s film are the likes of Michael Rooker, Benicio del Toro, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Gregg Henry and Glenn Close.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is set for a 1st August, 2014 release.
