In the last day or so, Morris Chestnut and his Twitter account have caused quite the stir amongst Marvel fans.

First up, Chestnut tweeted, “It’s time to get familiar with the Black Panther character!”., linking to a picture of the Black Panther comic book character. The post was quickly removed.

Speculation reared its ever-ugly head that Chestnut would be taking up the role of T’Challa in a Black Panther solo flick. These reports of a solo movie were quickly dashed by Chestnut himself, but not without adding further fuel to an appearance from the character with another tweet.

When asked whether the character will be getting a solo film, his response was, “Not final. Black Panther may be in ‘Avengers 2′ first.”

So, no solo film, but we may get an appearance in THE AVENGERS 2, right? Again, Chestnut took to the joys of the Twitterverse to give further clarification… and also dampening any speculative flames in the process.

“Thx to the fans for bringing #blackpanther to my attention, NOT in talks about this project with #Marvel”, read his final tweet on the matter.

So, in the last day we’ve gone from stories of a BLACK PANTHER film, to the character appearing in THE AVENGERS 2, to nothing actually happening with T’Challa.

An appearance in THE AVENGERS 2 would seem a more plausible outcome. Whilst the character of Black Panther has its fans, the character, at this time at least, is not strong enough (see: popular) to warrant his own film. Introducing him in a team-up film, such as THE AVENGERS 2, makes far more sense than a solo outing. Also, the likes of Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon have discussed incorporating the constantly revolving Avengers roster in their films.

Personally, I don’t expect this to be the last we hear on the character.

THE AVENGERS 2 opens May 1st 2015.
