Ghostbusters

Following on from the recent news that Dan Aykroyd had ordered a completely new draft of the long in development GHOSTBUSTERS 3 script, comes confirmation as to who that writer is. Step forward Etan Cohen.

Cohen has been around since 1995, cutting his comedy chops on the likes of BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD, RECESS and KING OF THE HILL, before making his feature debut with Mike Judge’s ill-fated IDIOCRACY. More successful was TROPIC THUNDER, MADAGASCAR 2 and MEN IN BLACK 3.

With those last 3 movies spinning box office gold, Aykroyd will be hoping for a similar success here, though let’s face it – only TROPIC THUNDER brought the real funny.

Before audiences can judge whether or not Cohen is successful in capturing the magic of the first two entries, he’ll have to get the seal of approval from hold-out Bill Murray. And since he called the last effort written by comedy veterans Lee Eisenberg & Gene Stupnitsky a load of old balls (we’re paraphrasing), he’s clearly a tough man to please. At least he’s projecting us from a piss-poor sequel that could potentially sully our memories of the originals, and that has to be applauded.
