Ask anybody what the best thing was about Universal’s 2010 animated feature DESPICABLE ME and the answer will always come back the same – those charming Minion fellas (coming in second, that kid with the unicorn). It’s no wonder then that Universal soon greenlit a spin-off movie starting the inarticulate little critters and saved themselves a bunce by not having to give Steve Carell a fat pay cheque to return as the super baddie turned super daddy, Gru. Ok, so admittedly a full-price DESPICABLE ME 2 is up first (hitting later this year), but the far more cost effective MINIONS will follow shortly after. Today comes the news that with the money they’ve saved on Carell Universal are drafting in Sandra Bullock to play the wonderfully named Scarlet Overkill, a new super villain character whose affections three of the Minions are competing for. Look for DESPICABLE ME 2 in July of this year, with MINIONS hitting cinemas Christmas 2014.
