Max Minghella, best known for starring in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and in the horror franchise instalment Spiral: From the Book of Saw, is in final negotiations to join the cast of DC Studios’ Clayface.

Minghella joins Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie in the body-horror thriller, which is being directed by Speak No Evil director James Watkins. It is the next DC movie to head into production, with a start date expected this autumn.

Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep, and the upcoming Life of Chuck) wrote the script for Clayface, about a Batman villain known for his ability to alter his appearance. According to THR, the story centres on a rising actor (Harries) who is disfigured by a gangster. As a last resort, the actor turns to a fringe scientist (Ackie) for help. Max Minghella will play a Gotham City police detective who is dating the scientist.

Writer Hossein Amini (best known for Drive) is also on board the project to revise the script. The Batman helmer Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris serve as producers, alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The movie is set to release in cinemas on September 11th, 2026.
