We’d previously heard how DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was to feature Commander Steel in its upcoming second season, and now comes word of just who will be playing the role when Legends returns later this year.

EW is reporting that iZombie’s Matthew MacCaull is the man tasked with bringing the Henry Heywood version of Commander Steel to life, with the character a confirmed member of the show’s take on the famed Justice Society of America. This follows on from previous news that Nick Zano is playing Dr. Nate Heywood in the series, who is the grandson of Henry Heywood and someone who also takes on the Commander Steel moniker in the comic books.

The classic version of Commander Steel, as in MacCaull’s Henry Heywood, has his body reinforced with steel plates and devices during World War II, giving him unique abilities in the process.

As well as Henry Heywood being a member of Legends’ JSA line-up, he’ll also be joined in the team by Hourman, Stargirl, Obsidian, and Dr. Mid-Nite. All of those roles have yet to be cast apart from Rex Tyler/Hourman, with Patrick J. Adams turning up as Tyler in the closing moments of Legends’ first season.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns to US screens on October 13th, with a UK return expected to follow shortly after. In Season 2, Rip Hunter’s team, presumably along with the Justice Society of America’s help, will be battling a Legion of Doom line-up consisting of Malcolm Merlyn, Damien Darhk, Reverse-Flash, and Captain Cold.
