Even before M3GAN releases in UK cinemas on Friday 13th, Deadline reports that a sequel to the killer doll film is already in the works.

Meanwhile, producer and horror fiend James Wan teased on Facebook that “Jason Blum and myself are beyond thankful and grateful to see how much love M3GAN is receiving, and hopefully what all this means is that we get the chance to explore the bigger world of A.I. and perhaps witness — M3gan’s Revenge????” Deadline then wrote that, according to sources, the sequel was in the early development stage.

Produced by Jason Blum and James Wan, M3GAN is directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound), from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant, The Nun 2) and based on a story by Cooper and Wan.

Per the logline, M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen, watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.

When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems – a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.

M3GAN releases in UK cinemas from Friday 13th January. Watch the trailer here.
