Our brand spanking new issue hit shelves only this past Friday, and in said marvellous piece of genre reading we wrote about how FOX made the slightly surprising call to cancel Lucifer after three seasons. Well, fans of the Tom Ellis-starrer can rejoice, for the series has now been picked up by Netflix.
It was a couple of weeks ago that word first came out that Lucifer was to be canned, with that part of the double-whammy news that The Exorcist was also getting scrapped. While we absolutely adored The Exorcist, that news didn’t come as a major surprise as, quite frankly, the ratings for the show were pretty darn awful. Where Lucifer was concerned though, the series had maintained relatively strong viewing numbers throughout its third year; making the news of its cancellation a little bit of a strange one.
At the time of that initial news, there was plenty of fan demand for the series to be picked up elsewhere, and now comes word that Netflix has picked up the show for a fourth season. The fact that online petitions surfaced as #SaveLucifer became the top trend on Twitter for a spell shows that there was still a whole lot of interest in Lucifer, and here’s hoping those fans can now rest easy in the knowledge that Lucifer Morningstar and Co. will be returning to the small screen – presumably later in the year.
