Further good news for us X-philes: the Lone Gunmen are confirmed to return on the newly revived series.

Actor Dean Haglund, who played Langly, one of the plucky trio of conspiracy theorists, announced the news on Twitter. Alongside fellow Gunmen Bruce Harwood (Byers) and Tom Braidwood (Frohike), the characters – who regularly unofficially assisted Mulder and Scully – were amongst the most popular on the cult series. They even starred in their own short-lived spin-off series.

The slight snag here is that the Lone Gunmen were killed off in the final season episode Jump the Shark, so how they’re going to return is anyone’s guess. They’ve already been revived in the comic series (where it was revealed they faked their deaths). Whether this will be acknowledged in the show isn’t known, but they’re in good company. The nefarious Cigarette-Smoking Man, played by William B. Davis, is already confirmed to be returning from the dead (surely whilst they’re resurrecting characters, they could bring back Krycek and Eugene Tooms?).

The trio will join returning stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi on the revived show, due to air in early 2016.
