It turns out that the upcoming third season of Netflix’s supernatural thriller Locke & Key will be its last. We also learn that season 3 had long been conceived as the series’ final chapter, however, so fans can at least expect a satisfying conclusion to the story.

“Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion,” explained executive producers and co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill in a joint statement. “As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.”

First look still at Locke & Key season 3

Locke & Key follows the Locke family’s move to their ancestral home in Matheson, Massachusetts. There, they discover a mysterious collection of magical keys, which may provide answers as to the story of their father’s death. The keys, which provide access to mystical doors and powers, also make the Lockes the targets of malevolent forces who desire the keys’ power for themselves.

The show is currently wrapping post-production on its last season, which will comprise eight episodes. Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott, Brendan Hines, Sherri Saum, Kevin Durand and Coby Bird, star in Locke & Key season 3.

No release date has yet been confirmed, but season 2 released in October 2021.
