As far as horror franchises go, the SAW series has proved to be one of the biggest horror hits of recent times. Despite original minds James Wan and Leigh Whannell leaving the franchise mid-way through its run, the films did some strong numbers despite the latter efforts splitting both fan and critical opinion. Whilst Whannell is still working in the genre, Wan decided that he was done with horror after the brilliant THE CONJURING, instead moving on to the likes of the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise. Well it appears that the duo could very well be returning for another SAW film in the future. Promoting the 10th anniversary of the first film, producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules revealed the news to Shock Till You Drop.

Burg teased, “James and Leigh, when SAW came out they were so afraid of being ‘the SAW guys.’ They were trying to make their own mark. Now that they’ve made their own mark, they’re very comfortable to come back. We’re getting there.”

On the current hope, Koules added, “Our goal is to go to Comic-Con, not next summer but the summer after with our heads up saying, ‘Here we go.’ James and Leigh are comfortable with the success they’ve had. And it’s time. James is in post on FAST AND FURIOUS 7. Leigh’s on post on INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3. Everyone has time and it’s time.”

Wan himself chimed in on this story, adding, “I’ve entertained the idea. But that’s more of a fantasy. It’s a story Leigh and I really like. Who knows?”

So, could two of the biggest names in modern-day horror be reteaming for another SAW film or could this merely be a conveniently-placed tease in order to promote the 10th anniversary of one of the great horror films of recent memory, the original SAW?

As big fans of both Wan and Whannell, we’re hoping something comes of this. Whilst Whannell is still sticking with the genre, James Wan is far too much of a horror talent to be spending his time making films centred around Vin Diesel and fast cars, right?
