If movie producers can plumb the depths of any literary circles, then why not video games? Well, BLACKGUARDS developer Daedalic Entertainment is doing just that. The studio is developing a game based on Ken Follett’s bestselling historical novel, THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH.

While it may seem a strange choice initially, the success of the ASSASSIN’S CREED franchise proves there’s a lot in combining (semi) historical fact with gaming. First published in 1989, the novel centres on arguments between clergy, nobility and civilians, set against the backdrop of 12th Century England. Adapted into a 2010 mini-series, this new venture will be a brave new world for Follett.

Carsten Fictelamm, founder and CEO Daedalic, claims the adventure genre would be the best and most appropriate way to adapt the material. Follett himself has commented, “I’m thrilled that THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH is going to be turned into a computer game by Daedalic. I believe this will bring my work to the attention of a new generation of readers.”

The game will be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One and iOS in 2017, coinciding with a new book.
