John Wick star Keanu Reeves is heading to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to voice the popular video game character, Shadow.

The news comes after Paramount presented the first footage for Sonic 3 at last week’s CinemaCon event. The footage saw Dr. Robotnik (played by Jim Carrey), depressed and out of sorts after the events of the second film, getting his groove back after creating Shadow the Hedgehog, a character first introduced in 2001’s Sonic Adventure 2.

The character possessed extraordinary speed, like Sonic, as well as Chaos Control, a power that allows him to manipulate space and time. Though originally depicted as an antagonist to Sonic, he eventually becomes an ally. Reeves joins an ensemble cast led by Ben Schwartz, who plays Sonic, and James Marsden as Sheriff Tom Wachowski. Idris Elba also reprises his voice role as Knuckles.

The plot details for this third movie entry are still under wraps. Directed by Jeff Fowler, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will release December 20th, 2024.

Keanu Reeves was recently seen in John Wick: Chapter 4 and in 2021’s The Matrix: Resurrections. Next up, he has a role in Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune, and will reportedly have a cameo in John Wick Presents: Ballerina, the spinoff film starring Ana De Armas.
