Whilst many are still trying to eradicate the memory of the previous Mortal Kombat adaptations from my mind, it looks as if another take on the famed video game franchise could be on the way.

The Tracking Board is reporting that James Wan is in talks to produce the redo for New Line Cinema. Wan, of course, is a huge genre fave for his work on the likes of The Conjuring, Insidious, Saw and, err, Furious 7. He’s also now on board to helm Warner Brothers’ Aquaman.

At this stage, it’s believed that Wan is being lined up to produce, so it remains to be seen who’ll be in the frame to direct this latest attempt at adapting one of the longest-standing fighting game franchises out there.

Previously, fans have been “treated” to two Mortal Kombat movies, plus the rather impressive Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries. Another movie effort has been in the works for a few years, although it now looks as if the relaunch is finally starting to make serious strides forward.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
