Remember how James Cameron was planning a whopping three Avatar sequels? Excessive, right? Well, the director has now given an update on all things Na’vi and revealed that he’s currently working on four sequels.

Speaking at CinemaCon, Cameron explained that each of these movies will stand as their own individual tales whilst also coming together to “form a complete saga.” The current plan is for Avatar 2 to hit screens in December 2018, with Avatar 3 set for 2020, Avatar 4 for 2022, and Avatar 5 for 2023. Production on Avatar 2 is expected to commence this month in New Zealand. As well as this news, the director also debuted a new logo for the franchise, as shown in the picture header of this post.

All we know about these sequels so far is that Avatar 2 will see the return of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang. Cameron has been writing the sequels along with Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.

2009’s Avatar remains the highest grossing movie in the history of cinema, taking home a massive $2.78 billion across the globe.
