Last November we reported on the formal commission of JEKYLL AND HYDE, a brand new ITV fantasy adventure series based on the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson and written and executive-produced by Charlie (FAST SHOW) Higson. ITV have now announced the main cast for the ten-episode series which will shortly begin extensive location filming in Sri Lanka before returning to London for further filming next month.

Tom Bateman, previously seen on TV in DA VINCI’S DEMONS and more recently on the London stage in a new production of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, has been cast as Robert Jekyll who, in the first episode, is a newly-qualified doctor living with his parents in Ceylon and who soon embarks on a dark and mysterious journey as he becomes aware of an inherited medical condition which causes a terrifying physical transformation. Appearing as Sir Roger Bulstrode, who heads up secret Government investigative organisation M10, is Richard E. Grant, the celebrated stage, film and TV actor whose credits include the classic WITHNAIL AND I and, more recently, episodes of DOCTOR WHO where he played a human manifestation of the Doctor’s old enemy The Great Intelligence. Romantic interest is provided by Natalie Gumede, the former CORONATION STREET star who appeared as Ashley Carter in the recent DOCTOR WHO Christmas episode LAST CHRISTMAS and who appears in JEKYLL AND HYDE as Bella.

JEKYLL AND HYDE is expected to air on the ITV Network in the UK this Autumn.
