The long-discussed INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 has made some waves today by revealing three cast members.

Director Roland Emmerich took his Facebook page and his Twitter account to confirm rumours that we’ve heard and to reveal a new name for the film. In terms of confirming previous stories, Emmerich revealed that Jeff Goldblum will indeed be returning as David Levinson, and that Liam Hemsworth will have a role in the film. Hemsworth’s role is believed to be the son-in-law of Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore (with Pullman presumed to be returning). The more surprising news came with announcing SURVIVOR’S REMORSE’s Jessie Usher as playing Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smith’s Captain Steven Hiller from the first film and played by Ross Bagley in that movie. And just to clarify, the Fresh Prince is not going to be returning this time out.

On casting Usher, Emmerich said, “My producing partner Harald Kloser noticed Jessie in between sets of push-ups at the gym and gave him an audition. As they say, the rest is history.”

INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 is currently set for a June 24th, 2016 release.
