Prime Video released the first trailer for its upcoming remake of Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala’s fantastic 2014 Austrian psychological thriller Goodnight Mommy, starring Naomi Watts as a creepy-as-all-hell mum.
She is visited by her young twin sons, Lucas and Elias (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti), who come to stay with her at her idyllic country home; but when the boys arrive, they find their mother – or at least, the woman claiming to be her – covered in bandages after undergoing extensive cosmetic surgery.
“I hate that you have to see me like this, but it’s nothing to be afraid of,” Watts’ character assures them. “I was hoping this could be our little secret.”
Enforcing new, strict house rules, taking up smoking, and other erratic behaviours – dancing alone in her underwear, secretly ripping up their drawings, and so on – a horrifying thought takes root in the boys’ minds: the sinking suspicion that the woman beneath the gauze, who’s making their food and sleeping in the next room, may not be their mother at all.”
Directed by Matt Sobel (Take Me To The River) and written by Kyle Warren (Lethal Weapon series), Goodnight Mommy also stars Peter Hermann as Father.
Goodnight Mommy is set to release September 16th on Prime Video. Watch the trailer below:
