Sony has announced that it is unloading the entirety of its large share in Square Enix’s estate to the tune of a predicted 4.8 billion dollars.

Historically Square Enix titles have largely been exclusive to the Sony’s consoles. Intellectual properties such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts were strongly linked to the PlayStation 2 and original PlayStation.

Recent releases and announcements however have seen their titles release across all platforms. With the abortion of the exclusive partnership between Sony and Sqaure Enix, the sale is the latest event in the apparently distancing relationship between the two gaming mainstays.

Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy are still set to release on the Playstation 4 along with the Xbox One.
