Ever wondered what would have happened had HG Well’s Martians decided to have another crack at taking Earth, this time by invading America in the year 1910. This is the premise of newly launched table top miniatures game All Quiet on the Martian Front, which has just launched a Kickstarter campaign, and busted it’s hefty $50,000 goal within a day.

All Quiet on the Martian Front is a miniatures wargame in which President Roosevelt leads his country against the blood sucking Martians and their incredible machines, using superweapons designed by the likes of Tesla and Edison, as well as outlandish steam tanks and iron clads. The United Kingdom, experienced with anti Martian war, sends the British Expeditionary Force to help.

Designed by the likes of Rick Priestley and Alessio Cavatore (names that should be familiar to anyone who’s fond of sci-fi wargames) and directed by Star Wars toy whiz Ernest Baker, All Quiet on the Martian Front is a 15mm scale skirmish war game, in which plucky Brits take on the Martian Tripod menace. What this means in practical terms of course is that very cool looking Tripod models will be available very soon, as well as Tesla tanks and steam powered death machines.

Games publisher Alien Dungeon intends to launch with British and Martian forces, with a promise of American, French , Germany and Venusian ranges to come. The design of the pieces looks great, and we’re a sucker for a good old fashioned alien death machine, especially when it comes with a hefty mix of steampunk sillines. The game itself looks to be the sort of ‘event’ gaming that is popular amongst most wargamers, the sort of thing that you set aside an afternoon for. The Kickstarter can be found here.
