As we get set to head to a galaxy far, far away in less than a fortnight (can you tell we’re a tad excited?!), it looks as if the Star Wars franchise could be getting a female touch.

Since the start of the franchise in 1977, Star Wars has famously been lacking when it comes to a female presence. In a literal galaxy, all we’ve seen in terms of strong characters have been Leia Organa, Padme Amidala, and, we guess, err, Mon Mothra. On the other side of the fence, Leigh Brackett worked on a draft of The Empire Strikes Back, whilst Carrie Fisher is believed to have done some polishing up work on the Phantom Menace script. With Daisy Ridley’s Rey set to have a huge role as the saga moves forward, it looks as if the franchise could now be looking towards female screenwriters and directors.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that, after a two-day event held by Women in Film and the Sundance Institute aimed at reducing Hollywood’s gender gap, famed agent and partner at William Morris Endeavor, Adriana Alberghetti, has managed to get meetings for four female directors and three female screenwriters when it comes to working on one of the upcoming Star Wars movies.

It’s not known which names have got meetings, but Alberghetti represents the likes of Jessica Jones’ S.J. Clarkson, Suffragette’s Sarah Gavron, Maleficent’s Linda Woolverton, and Buffy’s Marti Noxon.

At the moment, the most likely destination for any of the names is the 2019 Star Wars Anthology movie that is currently planned to centre on Boba Fett, although there’s talk that the focus of the film may be switched to Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi by the time the release comes around.

Of course, before all of this, J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens smashes on to the big screen on December 17th.
