Last August, we were chuffed to premiere the video for Luxtress’ Rutherford, as directed by musician and filmmaker Dylan Mars Greenberg. Now, we’re sharing an exclusive clip from Greenberg’s upcoming feature film Spirit Riser, which the director says is one of her “most favourite horror sequences in the film!” The clip features Kansas Bowling – known for her new directorial triumph Cuddly Toys and roles in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Verotika, and Christmas Bloody Christmas – being pursued by a terrifying monster played by Hannah Schilsky, who also designed and built the mask herself. The movie premieres on March 30th at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York and then on April 26th on the West Coast at Gardena Cinema!
“I was really inspired by Italian cinema when making this film,” says Greenberg. “This scene in particular was my attempt at paying homage to the neon aesthetics of Suspiria and an underrated classic, Luigi Cozzi’s The Black Cat!”
Spirit Riser is a genre-bending fantasy with elements of horror, comedy, action, surrealism, and martial arts from rising New York City filmmaker Dylan Mars Greenberg. The story follows two sisters who are thrown out of their isolation and onto opposite coasts of America by a terrifying cosmic entity. While one sister suffers from memory loss and the other is too young to understand her own past, the girls discover they possess supernatural powers as they are pursued by the mysterious and unearthly being hell–bent on their destruction.
You can check out the poster below, which shows the massive amount of talent on display, in addition to Bowling’s appearance.
