After being confirmed to direct STAR TREK 3 earlier in the year, it now appears that Roberto Orci has stepped away from the project. At least that’s the word coming from Deadline, which goes on to say that STARBURST fave Edgar Wright is one of the current favourites to take over the film.

As for the reason for Orci’s departure, the details on that are sketchy at this stage, although it’s believed that the film will continue to move forward with the script that was put together by Orci, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne.

No release date has been given for this third in the relaunched STAR TREK cinematic franchise, although Paramount Pictures were looking at a 2016 release in order to capitalise on the franchise’s 50th anniversary.

Expect more on this as it develops.
