If you’ve ever played a fantasy TTRPG (or a similar video game), you’ll be familiar with the idea of goblins. Short, brutal creatures with quick tempers, a distinct lack of good judgement and a general tendency to act first (usually violently) and never consider the consequences of their actions. These dim-witted, destructive monsters tend to turn up in large numbers and present a challenge for low-level heroes, and can even take out epic adventurers if there’s enough of them.
If you’re the sort of Dungeon Master who uses battle maps and minis, you might want to have enough minis and associated models to have a proper encounter. Wizkid’s Adventure In A Box – Goblin Camp pretty much does what it says on the box. It’s a set of pre-painted models and minis. The sculpts are decent, and the paint jobs are table-top quality. It’s good enough for most gamers (and if you really want to attack them with a brush, these minis paint up quite well).
We get eight goblins in total, including a goblin boss, and they’re all in slightly angry, obviously crazy poses. They’re not ‘comedy goblins’, just angry and scary little beasties looking to poke some heroes with a variety of pointy things.
We get a single dire wolf/warg, and it fits snuggly into the supply wagon if you want to domestic it. You can use it as an equally angry monster. The wagon tips over nicely for cover. The centrepiece of the set is the tent, which is big enough to house eight goblins without them squabbling too much. We get a flag pole, a firepit, some cargo, a cooking pot and two spikey barricades. And a double-sided battle map to put it all on, which is scaled for D&D.
This is also a decent monster and terrain set for the tabletop wargamer. The set-dressing works well as various types of cover, and if the scale of your game is a little larger, that’s fine, as this is a goblin camp, and goblins are small. It’s quite a flexible set, provided your plans for a game involve goblins and a campsite.
This is a neat and useful set and a good addition to someone starting a collection.
