Disney’s Big Hero 6 was one of the most well-received animated efforts of recent years, and the film now has a sequel series heading to the small screen.

The Walt Disney Company today announced that a Big Hero 6 series will be arriving on the Disney XD channel next year. This new series is already in production and will pick up directly where the movie left off, with Hiro now enrolled at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology and set to go up against the academic challenges and social problems that come with being the small guy on campus. Off campus, though, protecting the city from scientifically-enhanced villains is the order of the day. In addition to Hiro, there will also be returns for Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred, Go Go, and Baymax.

On this news, Disney’s Gary Marsh said, “Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series – full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob – and Baymax – can deliver.”

As alluded to in that last line, Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley will be serving as executive producers along with Nick Filippi.

Big Hero 6 The Series will hit Disney XD at some point in 2017.
