Daniel Kaluuya is joining the Spider-fam in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to the Academy Award-winning animated masterpiece, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The actor has joined the sequel’s voice casts as Hobart “Hobie” Brown, aka Spider-Punk. He joins Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, who must once again join forces with Gwen Stacy – aka Spider-Gwen, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld – and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered. The previously-released teaser trailer also features an action-packed appearance by Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, seen briefly in Into the Spider-Verse’s post-credits scene. Every dimension will look and feel different from the others, embracing a range of artistic styles in what’s sure to be one of the most visually exciting film of the decade.
Brian Tyree Henry, Jake Johnson, Luna Lauren Velez and Greta Lee return, with newcomers Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Jason Schwartzman, Jorma Taccone and Shea Whigham joining the fold. Kaluuya’s character, Spider-Punk, is a relatively recent Marvel creation, first appearing in 2015. In the comics, Brown is a homeless teenager who becomes a hero to the oppressed citizens of his dimension’s New York City.
Across the Spider-Verse is the second of a planned trilogy, with a third instalment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, set to be released March 29th, 2024. Daniel Kaluuya was most recently seen in Jordan Peele’s close encounter flick Nope, in which he starred opposite Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun.
