CONSTANTINE to be Capped at 13 Episodes

With CONSTANTINE receiving a generally positive response from both fans and critics alike, it’s a little surprising to find out that the show’s first season is having its run capped at 13 episodes.

Deadline is reporting that NBC’s Matt Ryan-starring show, based on Vertigo and DC’s fan-favourite HELLBLAZER property, is to halt production after completing an initial 13-episode order. The cast and crew of the series were supposedly informed of the decision at the end of last week.

NBC had recently made similar moves for their BAD JUDGE and A TO Z shows, which ended up with those shows essentially being cancelled. It’s believed that CONSTANTINE will NOT be getting cancelled, but just the network needed to make a quick call on the show’s immediate future. With CONSTANTINE’s premiere delayed until late October (genre shows tend to debut a month or so earlier that that in the US), the network were forced to make a call after only 4 episodes of the show on whether to order additional episodes or to cap the season, which is why it was decided that 13 episodes would be the first season’s run. Usually a network would make such a decision after airing 7 or 8 episodes.

So, whilst CONSTANTINE’s first season will only feature 13 episodes, all word coming out on this decision is that is does NOT mean that the show will be cancelled. Fingers crossed that things stay like that.
