The British Fantasy Society has had its annual convention, and that means that the winners of the British Fantasy Awards have been announced. The ceremony was held at The Bull Hotel in Peterborough on the first of October. Next year’s Fantasycon will be at The Chester Queen in Chester, October 19-21. The winners of the 2017 awards are presented below.
Daniele Serra was Best Artist
Best comic/graphic novel went to Monstress Volume 1. Published by Image Comics, written by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda
The Sydney J. Bounds for Best Newcomer went to Erica L Satifka
Best film/TV is Arrival, directed by Denis Villeneuve and distributed by Paramount.
The Karl Edward Wagner Award, presented for service to British fandom goes to Jan Edwards.
In addition, a Fantasycon specific award, The Legend of Fantasycon Award, was presented to David and Sandra Sutton for their work in organising past Fantasycons. It is not part of the BFAs and was presented just before the main ceremony. Next year’s BFAs will also feature an audio award.
