After much rumour and speculation, it’s official: Brie Larson is to play Captain Marvel.

Stories over the past few months claimed that the Room actress was being lined up to play Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios has now made it official.

For those not familiar with Danvers, she debuted back in 1968, initially a member of the US air force before later becoming Ms. Marvel in 1977 following a previous tangle with explosive Kree technology. In 2012, Danvers was given a “promotion” to the mantle of Captain Marvel. As part of her powers, she’s able to project and absorb energy as well as having the usual superhuman strength and speed not to mention the ability to fly.

The Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel character will debut in the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Infinity War Part I, which will hit cinemas on May 4th, 2018. Following that, she’ll get her own Captain Marvel movie on March 8th, 2019 before Avengers: Infinity War Part II on May 3rd, 2019.
