Whilst Marvel’s The Punisher may still be a little ways away, that’s not stopped the show from bringing in its first new addition to join Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle.

TVLine is reporting that Ben Barnes, best known to genre fans for playing Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia movie franchise and for taking the titular role in 2009’s Dorian Gray, has joined the upcoming show as a series regular. There’s no confirmed details on Barnes’ role just yet, although current speculation suggests that he could actually be playing Bobby Saint. That’s a character who was played by James Carpinello in 2004’s Thomas Jane-starring The Punisher, but interestingly Saint is a non-comic book character who was specifically created purely for that particular movie.

There’s still no exact details on just when we can expect to see Marvel’s The Punisher at this stage, with initial reports stating that the series won’t arrive on Netflix until at least 2018, whilst a recent leaked image suggested that the show may actually debut next year at some point.

As for Marvel’s other Netflix-exclusive offerings, Marvel’s Luke Cage will debut later this month (September 28th, to be precise), Marvel’s Iron Fist is currently shooting, and Marvel’s The Defenders (bringing together Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’ Danny Rand) will start production later this year.
