Following up on their success with the original game, Focus Home Interactive have announced the release of 2016’s Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2. Skipping forward in the timeline, the game will not focus on some of the later conflicts following the Twelfth Black Crusade or Tyrannic Wars, but will instead be set in the era following Cadia’s destruction.

The trailer is purely cinematic and shows little in the way of gameplay alterations, but it has confirmed a multitude of points. There are set to be twelve factions this time around, with new elements including the Adeptus Mechanicus, Dark Eldar, Robute Guilliman’s Indomitus Crusade, the Necron Dynasties and Tyranid Hive Fleets. It has also been announced that all previous factions will return in one form or another.

In the game’s section on Focus Home Interactive’s website, the publisher promised the following:

“The latest dramatic story development in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the Gathering Storm and the 13th Black Crusade, will serve as the canvas for several, extensive and dynamic campaigns. With bigger battles, refined gameplay, improved multiplayer modes and features for a better and more balanced online experience, improvements across the board and even more customisation options for fleets and ships, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 promises to be the ultimate Warhammer 40,000 space battle experience.”

Going from the improved multiplayer modes and refined gameplay, it seems that the developer has been listening to the common criticisms of the previous release. Time will tell if they have truly acted upon them.
