Riding the wave of growing excitement at the announcement of two live action ATTACK ON TITAN films, comes the news that a live action TV series in the works.

Starting this August, the series will directly tie into the events of the films. It’ll star Satomi Ishihara reprising her role as Hanji from the films, alongside Nanami Sakuraba as Sasha, Shu Watanabe as Fukushi, Rina Takeda as Lil and Ayame Misaki as Hiana. Also, Yūta Hiraoka (NANA, Mirai Nikki) will join the cast as a new character for the show. Shinji Higuchi likewise returns from the films to direct the series.

Hajime Isayama’s manga has proved hugely popular, spawning four spin off manga, a 25-episode anime (itself leading to two compilation films) with a second series in the works for 2016.

The series will stream on dTV — Docomo’s revamped streaming video service —in August after both films have finished airing over the summer. There’s no word on US/UK distribution, but we’re feeling hopeful that Crunchyroll will make the series available to stream.
