COMIC REVIEW: THE POWER OF TANK GIRL / AUTHOR: ALAN C. MARTIN, ASHLEY WOOD, RUFUS DAYGLO / ARTIST: ASHLEY WOO, RUFUS DAYGLO / PUBLISHER: TITAN COMICS / RELEASE DATE: OUT NOW

True to Tank Girl form, the chaos, mayhem, and hilarity is top notch, back with a bang thanks to co-creator Alan C. Martin. The Power of Tank Girl sees three epic stories collected together, “The Gifting”, “Visions of Booga”, and “The Royal Escape”, in one mammoth, Booga pooch-sized volume.

Previously released as three separate stories, The Power of Tank Girl brings these three rather unique Tank Girl stories together in fine form. Opening up with “The Royal Escape”, diehard fans certainly won’t be disappointed, jumping straight into the usual mayhem with one hell of a brash, gory, wonderfully insane, and incredibly hilarious story, as can always be expected from Martin. Captured perfectly with Rufus Dayglo and Ashley Woo’s stunning art work, this one’s more for the already established Tank Girl fans; newcomers may find that there’s a little too much insanity to take in one reading, but it certainly doesn’t disappoint, worth reading for some of the hilarious puns alone.

Leading onto to the second story “Visions of Booga”, a little tamer than “The Royal Escape”, replacing the gore, violence and puns with a more subdued but amusing story centred on our favourite mutant kangaroo. Rounding the whopping collection off with “The Gifting”, standing out from the previous stories with a change in direction for the art work, but one that brings out the storyline perfectly as it jumps from each increasingly-entertaining plot point. Rounding off the collection with some classic Tank Girl strips and artwork separating each story out, making for a visual feast that will certainly please.

Collected together, these three separate stories make for an entertaining read – it’s much like being reunited with a drunken old friend; outlandish, rude, and utterly hilarious. Staying true to the usual mayhem of a Tank Girl storyline, you certainly won’t be disappointed. A great treat for all diehard fans.
